1. Lars Müller Pop-Up Store at e_spacio Travesias

Lars Müller published his first book at the age of 28 and since then has released more than 600 titles under the name, Lars Müller Publishers. The titles consist of beautiful books regarding architecture, art, and design edited, designed with a surgeon’s eye (or rather a Swiss designer’s eye). Lars Müller, who to this day remains in charge of the publishing, believes deeply in the value of analogue. With such an understanding and respect for the objects, he and his team create unique books, where design and content are one and the same. For the month of October, e_spacio Travesías, our publishing house’s bookstore, will have a selection of 40 titles from Lars Müller Publishers for sale with a 20% discount.

2. Tricky on Tour in Mexico at Plaza Condesa

Adrian Thaws is Tricky: British producer, director, actor, and musician. He is one of the most recognized artists in the genre of “trip hop” (electronic music influenced by soul, funk, and jazz) and has collaborated with big names on the scene such as Martina Topley, Bird, Massive Attack, and Bjork. The British musician is once again on tour in North America and returns to Mexico for the anniversary of the Foro Hilvana (“Hilvana Forum”). The Foro Hilvana is bringing the Bristol artist to Plaza Condesa in order to celebrate eleven years of exhibiting the work of all kinds of creators.

The concert will take place on Saturday, October 13, in El Plaza Condesa (Juan Escutia 4) at 9pm.

3. International Book Fair at the Zocalo

The International Book Fair at the Zócalo has existed since 2001 and ever since has occurred every year in the month of October at the Zócalo. This year it will take place from Friday, October 12 to Sunday, October 21, 2018, between 10am and 8pm. All activities are free. In its 18th edition, the theme is “rights and freedoms” – the forms they adopt, how to discuss them, how to make them more visible. The program revolves around topics such as human, cultural, environmental, and women’s rights. This year it brings together more than 290 publishers from 28 countries as well as over 1400 activities in 10 forums spread throughout the Zócalo.

Some events that cannot be missed are the talk with Joan Fontcuberta, one of the most prestigious contemporary photographers, the presentation of the book, “Se busca. Unpublished Portraits of Manuel Álvarez Bravo”, and the talk entitled, “Diffusion of Astronomy”, with Mexican physicists and astronomers.

4. Abierto Mexicano de Diseño: a Week All About Design

The Abierto Mexicano de Diseño is the ultimate festival for dialoguing about design in Mexico, and especially in Mexico City. Each year they bring together creators – last year more than 400 – both emerging and established, to show that design is a tool of culture, and not merely aesthetics. In this year’s edition, in order to facilitate navigating among the thousand proposals, the AMD will be divided into eight pavilions: Academic, Architecture, Visual Communication, Furniture and Objects, Fashion, Textiles, AMD Gallery, and Public Space.

5. Exhibition: Registro Condesa

This Saturday, October 13, is the inauguration of the exhibition Registro Condesa (“Condesa Register”) at e_spacio Travesías (our publishing company’s bookstore). As part of the Urban Territory section of the Design Week 2018 (different from Abierto Mexicano de Diseño), the exhibition is a tribute to one of the most creative neighborhoods in the city and relives some of its most memorable times. In this exhibition, the neighborhood’s last twenty-something years have been gathered in images – from the parties at La Panadería to the clubs that never were, designed by important architects.
