What’s happening in Mexico City? September 14-26, 2018

1/ Celebrate “El Grito”

To celebrate El Grito de Dolores on September 15, the famous date marking the start of the Mexico War of Independence, make reservations at your favorite rooftop where you can drink and watch the fireworks in honor of the patria. If you need a push in the right direction, we recommend you to get dressed up in your favorite combination of red, white, and green, and head to Toledo Rooftop where the festivities will begin at 2pm. Music by Métrika.

If you rather have a more traditional September 15 in CDMX, go to the public esplanade in the Benito Juárez delegation to listen to (free!) cumbia music by Los Ángeles Azules, fill up on street food, and watch the fireworks light up the sky. Music starts at 7pm.

2/ Aire: MUAC exhibit on contamination

In a small room of the UNAM’s contemporary art museum, MUAC, you can find the sound installation, Aire, by the collectivity, Interspecies. The purpose of the installation is to allow the visitors to hear Mexico City’s pollution. That’s right, hear it. Using synthesizers, a different resonance is given to each component of the pollution depending on its flow in the environment. It is inspired by the complexity and the variation of contaminants in Mexico City. Don’t miss this unique exhibit that will leave you shocked by the pollution that surrounds us everyday. Ends October 12th.
