The Guide to Rooftops in Mexico City

Whether it’s brunch or late night drinks, these spots are all the rage in the capital.

POR: Evan Upchurch

During the months of April and May, the capital reaches its highest temperatures of the year. There is nothing better to enjoy the warm weather than a refreshing drink with friends atop the city’s most beautiful buildings. These five rooftops in Mexico City are ideal spots to watch the day turn into the night.

La Azotea

The rooftop with the best view of the Alameda Central. Located inside Barrio Alameda, this spot feels both trendy and relaxed. On a sunny day, come here to enjoy a mouth-watering rib eye or simply an artisanal beer, like Colimita, with your partner or friends. Sundays are the best.

Calle Dr Mora 9, Centro

Downtown

There’s nothing like watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand from the rooftop of this splendid 18th-century building. From time to time, pool parties are organized, but on a normal (preferably sunny) day, it is the ideal place to enjoy a Negroni or gin and tonic.

Isabel la Catolica 30, Centro

Palmares

Located on top of a beautiful building, the ambiance fits perfectly with that of the neighborhood—bohemian chic. The lively music and extensive drinks menu are the ideal prep for a night out. Dishes include everything from ceviche to hamburgers.

Durango 216, Roma Norte

Terraza Cha Cha Cha

Overlooking the Revolution Monument, this rooftop restaurant is tucked away on the sixth floor of an Art Deco building. Implementing windows instead of walls, the space was intelligently designed keeping its vast view in mind. The menu boasts generous portions and encourages sharing.

Avenida de la Republica 157, Tabacalera

Toledo Rooftop

One of the best sunset views in the city. Open from Thursday to Sunday, it is a relaxed spot for drinks and a bite to eat in the early evening, and at night, the ambiance becomes that of pretty people drinking and flirting to the beat of DJ sets. A hotspot—be sure to make a reservation.
