Five Hotel Gastronomic Experiences We Love in Mexico
Discover five hotels across Mexico that provide not only luxury accommodations but also exemplary gastronomic experiences.

A hotel is our home away from home, and unless you are a chef or happen to live with one, which narrows the scope a bit, your home most likely doesn’t have world-class cuisine available at your fingertips. In Mexico, there is a number of hotels that not only provide luxury accommodations but also exemplary gastronomic experiences. Listed below are five hotel restaurants that will make your mouth water.
1. Ixi’im (Chablé)
Only 25 minutes from Mérida, this restaurant located in the lush jungle of the Yucatán is chef Jorge Vallejo’s second project after the successful Quintonil in Mexico City, named in Latin America’s 50 Best list. Ixi’im provides foodies with an innovative menu blending local and other Mexican flavors, featuring ingredients harvested directly from the hotel’s Maya Garden.
The restaurant is also home to the largest tequila collection in the world, and in 2018, its interior design by Paulina Morán was awarded the Prix Versailles for the most beautiful restaurant in the world.
2. Restaurante Casa Oaxaca (Casa Oaxaca)
Chef Alejandro Ruiz arouses all five senses with his unique dishes, mixing Mediterranean herbs with traditional Oaxacan flavors. Native to the region, Ruiz works to make the tastes and smells of the simplest ingredients, such as hoja santa and grasshoppers, speak for themselves.
The restaurant is located in the boutique hotel Casa Oaxaca in the heart of Oaxaca’s cultural district. It is full of light and boasts a lively ambiance, providing a well-rounded dining experience.
3. Dulce Patria (Las Alcobas)
In Mexico City, the boutique hotel, Las Alcobas, is a foodie paradise. One of its two restaurants is Dulce Patria, which is headed by renowned chef Martha Ortiz and offers an atypical take on Mexican gastronomy. The dishes use bright, festive colors and seek to symbolize each ingredient.
Following the concept that the experience at Dulce Patria is a visual narrative, its desserts are remarkably delicious but (almost) too difficult to eat given they look like pieces of art. As for the décor, the space is minimalist and red.
4. Café Azul Talavera (Rosewood Puebla)
Breakfast or lunch inside the Rosewood Puebla’s Café Azul Talavera is a must when visiting the city. Not only is the hotel a sight in and of itself (as per usual with Rosewood properties), the restaurant has proven to be a hit with its fresh local products concocted with a European twist.
At Café Azul Talavera, the vibe is that of a city bistro: relaxed, simple, and quick. The restaurant, like its names suggests, gives a nod to Puebla’s famous Talavera pottery.
5. Restaurante LUM (Hotel B¨o)
San Cristobal de las Casas’s first designer hotel, Hotel B¨o, is the host of Restaurante LUM, an upscale indoor-outdoor restaurant. Its menu blends the cuisine of Chiapas with unique flavors from around the world, all while retaining the utmost respect for local ingredients.
With a contemporary, funky design, including details such as a wall of perfectly stacked firewood and custom-made lamps, this restaurant feels in-the-know without pretentions.
