What’s happening in Mexico City? October 26 — November 8, 2018

Here are six things you can do in Mexico City from October 26 to November 8, 2018 — a little art, culture, music, and a lot of fun!

26 Oct 2018

1. Kandinsky arrives at Bellas Artes

On Wednesday, October 31, Bellas Artes will welcome an exhibition by the world-acclaimed Russian artist, Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky’s paintings were each their own separate world; a collection of sentiment, fear, doubt, and joy represented by colored dots and lines that transmitted emotions like no other. Until the end of 2018, those lucky enough to live in or visit Mexico City will have the privilege to walk Bellas Artes and personally experience the works of the great abstract artist.

2. Halloween party at Pinche Gringo

At one of the city’s most popular BBQ joints, Pinche Gringo Warehouse, located near the neighborhood of Polanco, there will be a Halloween party you can’t miss. The event will begin with a Q&A with Eileen Dietz, the actress who played the demon Pazuzu in the film The Exorcist, followed by a live set by Vinila Von Bismark and a DJ set by Pau Sotomayor.

The highlight of the event is the costume contest with a grand prize of 6,000 pesos. Keep in mind that only the first 50 people to sign up in person for the contest will be considered. The party will take place on Saturday, October 27, between 8pm and 2am; it is free, and anyone 18 years or older can enter.

3. Visit Reforma’s Alebrijes

Alebrijes, folk art sculptures of brightly colored, fantastical creatures, are unique to Mexico. Think: a donkey with butterfly wings or a lion with an eagle head. Every year, the Mexico City Alebrije Parade floats through the streets of the capital, and this year, the giant art forms featured in the parade are being exhibited along Reforma. You can stroll along the avenue and admire the fabulous creations until November 4th.
