Twenty-eight years in the making, Punta Caliza is the result of a family dream. When the hotel’s current administrator, Cuauhtémoc Muñoz, was born, his father planted 13 hectares of red cedar in the state of Tabasco. He hoped to one day sell the wood to pay for his son’s college fees. The day came that Cuauhtémoc was ready to go to school, but the wood had not yet grown enough to be sold.
Years later, Muñoz’s sister, Claudia (also administrator of the hotel), did an internship with the architectural firm Macias Peredo in Guadalajara. The same firm would go on to design the hotel; however, there was a catch. The builders had to use the wood planted by the Muñoz family. Today Punta Caliza, which has been operating for a year now, seeks to be a space that highlights the beauty and overwhelming hospitality of Mexican culture.
